-
#2 We recognize that our intelligence gives us a unique responsibility toward our environment. We seek to live in harmony with Nature, in ecological balance offering fulfillment to life and consciousness within an evolutionary concept.

-
This may sound a little pompous but it's actually true, if you put it into everyday English. What this basically says is that Witches have more knowledge of the world around them than people who do not practice higher magick, and more often than not this knowledge gives a Witch more power over the world around them. With this knowledge and power comes great responsibility. Because we understand that the Earth is connected to us and a part of us we must take care of it the way we would an arm if it were injured or a very close and dear friend who was sick. There are different ways to do this, the first is to recycle. Conserve valuable resources like water, eletricity, natural gas and crude oil, as well as the ancient forests that are falling by the second. You may believe that forests can be replaced, that we can always grow new ones, but that's not true of the animals that live there. Entire species have already gone extinct in today's world because of the severe abuse logging, mining, and drilling companies. If you want more information on this subject please visit NRDC, The Natural Resources Defense Council website.

-
#3 We acknowledge a depth of power far greater that that apparent to the average person. Because it it far greater than ordinary it is sometimes called "supernatural", but we see it as lying within that which is naturally potential to all.

-
Don't be intimidated by this one just yet. What this says it what I meantioned earlier, actually... More often than not the knowledge a Witch possesses gives him/her more power over the world around them. However, that does not mean that this power is limited exclusively to Witches. Anyone who wants to can practice higher magick and they can do this however they please. For example, if someone who knows nothing of Witchcraft were to start practicing higher magick then they could be just as powerful as someone who knows all of the rules and beliefs. I mentioned earlier that anyone who practices higher magick is a Witch, but let me rephrase that a little... Once you start practicing high magick you are a Witch. However, if you break with the laws you are no longer a Witch. You're just an idiot messing with things you don't understand and that's always dangerous. Of course, much to my dismay there are those of us who know the Laws and break them anyway, who take the knowledge and shirk the responsibility. But I'll explain that at another time, in another place.

-
#4 We conceive of the Creative Power in the universe as manifesting through polarity--as masculine and feminine--and that this same Creative Power lies in all people, and functions through the interaction of the masculine and feminine. We value neither above the other, knowing each to be supportive of the other. We value sex as pleasure, as the symbol and embodiment of life, and as one of the sources of energies used in magickal practice and religious worship.

-
This is not exactly a rule intended for young Witches, but no matter how young you are it's important for you to understand what it means anyway. Be aware, though, that all knowledge comes with responsibility and if you are not responsible enough for this than be honest with yourself about that and leave this alone. For those of you who are mature people, keep reading.

-
This law basically states a common belief that Witches have, that the Divine power (whether you call that God, or Allah, or anything else) is made up of two parts. Masculine, The God, and feminine, The Goddess. The God and Goddess are within and without us all. They are everywhere and in everything. There are in the sky, the water, the trees, the soil, and in each of us. This means that not only are we all inherently divine, whether we are man or wolf or rock or tree, but also that we are all connected. If you want to know more about this I sugest looking up rituals for grounding, astral projection, and two other specific rituals. The two rituals are called, "Drawing Down the Moon," and "Drawing Down the Sun." For more information check out The Mystica, an online encyclopedia of the occult, mysticism, magic, and paranormal. Specifically check out their section on The Goddess and Witchcraft. They have an excellent article there on Drawing Down the Moon that I highly recommend.

-
I have given you explanations for the first four rules of the laws of Witchcraft. The rest you must read and seek understanding for yourself, within yourself. Magick and power, like all things worth having, must be earned.

-
#5 We recognize both outer worlds and inner, or psychological, worlds sometimes known as the Spiritual World, the Collective Unconscious, Inner Planes, etc.--and we see in the inter-action of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magickal exercises. We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment.

-
#6 We do not recognize any authoritarian hierarchy, but do honor those who teach, respect those who share their greater knowledge and wisdom, and acknowledge those who have courageously given of themselves in leadership.

-
#7 We see religion, magick and wisdom in living as being united in the way one views the world and lives within it--a world view and philosophy of life which we identify as Witchcraft--the Wiccan Way.

-
#8 Calling oneself "Witch" does not make a Witch--but neither does heredity itself, nor the collecting of titles, degrees and initiations. A Witch seeks to control the forces within him/herself that make life possible in order to live wisely and well without harm to others and in harmony with Nature.

-
#9 We believe in the affirmation and fulfillment of life in a continuation of evolution and development of consciousness giving meaning to the Universe we know and our personal role within it.

-
#10 Our only animosity towards Christianity, or towards any other religion or philosophy of life, is to the extent that its institutions have claimed to be 'the only way' and have sought to deny freedom to others and to suppress other ways of religious practice and belief.

-
#11 As American Witches, we are not threatened by debates on the history of the Craft, the origins of various terms, the legitimacy of various aspects of different traditions. We are concerned with our present and future.

-
#12 We do not accept the concept of absolute evil, nor do we worship any entity known as 'Satan' or 'the Devil' as defined by the Christian tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, no accept that personal benefit can be derived only by denial to another.

-
#13 We believe that we should seek within Nature that which is contributory to our health and well-being.

-

-
But, of course there are more rules and guidelines and such. And here They are...
